The World's Mockery of the Promise of the Rapture
2 Peter 3:1–4
1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
The closer we draw to the Great Day — the Day of the coming of our Master Jesus Christ — the more we see different categories of scoffers rising up, along with scientific theories inspired by Satan. All of this has one purpose: to annihilate the promise of the Lord in the hearts of men; to erase from among men the very thought of the Lord's return. Know this, my beloved: nothing they can put forward as theories will ever be able to render the promise of the Lord null and void. On the contrary, when they speak of it in their attempts to refute it, they only make it more living and real. Do not, therefore, be shaken or troubled by these satanic inspirations that ceaselessly attempt to deny the promise of the return of Jesus Christ and the Rapture of the Church.
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). Beloved, suppose the Lord had returned last year — how many people would have been left unsaved? Would you have been among those raptured? Understand, therefore, that if the Lord has not yet returned — neither yesterday nor today — that is, if He still tarries a little while, it is to allow us to sanctify ourselves further; it is to give the heathen time to repent and return to Him. His patience, then, is Salvation for us. Nevertheless, I do not say that His return is still far off; on the contrary, it is more than imminent — for the harvest of the earth is ripe, and the reapers must reap.
The Nature of the Church That Will Be Raptured
Brothers and sisters, I cannot conclude this teaching on the Rapture of the Church without speaking of the quality and nature of the Church that the Lord will rapture. Let us begin by reading Ephesians 5:25–27.
Ephesians 5:25–27
25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Let us complement this passage with the following texts: Colossians 1:21–22 and 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
Colossians 1:21–22
21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Beloved, the Church that the Lord will come to take will not be just any church. As we have just read, it will be a holy and blameless Church — without spot or wrinkle. Let us understand, therefore, that it is not the church as we know it today; it will not be an apostate church, nor an ordinary church. But it will be a perfect and extraordinary Church; it will be a Church that will have renounced everything in order to await its Bridegroom coming on the clouds of heaven. It will not, therefore, be a church that runs after the riches, comfort, and happiness of this world — that is, after vanity.
It will be a Church that will have triumphed over all satanic systems — such as football matches, television series, films, Facebook, Instagram, and all the rest of these social networks. It will not be a church that chases after fashion or artificial beauty — artificial hair, jewelry, cosmetic lotions, and the like.
It will be a Church that will demonstrate in its fullness the Wisdom of God to the people of this world — a wisdom that consists not in living for oneself or for one's own interests, but for God alone.
It will not be a church that still delights in sin, but a holy Church. It will therefore not be a church of homosexuals, fornicators, drunkards, pornographers, those given to self-abuse, liars, those who harbor bitterness and resentment, thieves, or murderers. It will be a Church wholly sanctified and living for none other than its Head, Jesus Christ.
1 John 3:2–3
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Brothers and sisters, it is therefore time for each one of us to purify ourselves — time for each one of us to reconsider our fellowship with God. The hour has come for those who are still playing with the time the Lord has granted them to redeem it. It is time for those who are living in sin to repent; it is time for all those who are still immersed in the passions and desires of this world to repent sincerely. It is time for every sinner to give his life to Jesus Christ — for the Lord is coming back very, very soon, and to miss the Rapture is to go to Hell.
May the Lord bless you!
